#8 Spread Your Work Across The Day
You get full context at a fraction of the token cost. This is one of the most effective ways to manage claude usage limits during long working sessions. The context window is everything the model can “see” at once when generating its next response. It includes your system prompt, the conversation so far, every tool call and its output, and every file that’s been read. Claude Code has a context window of one million tokens.
Go to the sidebar → click Projects → create a new Project → upload your recurring files there. Now every conversation inside that Project can reference those files without re-paying the token cost. Every follow-up message adds to the conversation history.

All the context, all the files, the entire approach, right there waiting. Last week I was debugging a payment flow, got pulled into a meeting, and completely forgot where I was. Came back hours later, typed /history, found “Debug this payment webhook race condition”, ran claude –resume with that session ID, and picked up exactly where we left off. Each row shows when it happened, which project, what you were working on, and the session ID to resume. It’s basically git log for your Claude conversations.

When you start a new chat session, you begin a new conversation with the AI. Each session has its own context window and can run with a different agent type and permission level. You can run multiple sessions in parallel, each focused on a different task or topic. Use the sessions list to monitor and switch between your active sessions. While using the free Claude plan, there is a session-based usage limit that will reset every five hours.
